Newly-acquired Jhonny Peralta hit a pair of home runs off Jon Lester as the Detroit Tigers barely held on for a 6-5 win over the Red Sox, Friday night at Fenway Park in the opener of a three-game series. David Ortiz belted his ninth career grand slam with one out in the ninth off closer Jose Valverde to make it a one-run game but Mike Cameron struck out looking with the tying and winning runs on base as the Sox fell just short

 

Lester allowed a season-high 11 hits and four runs over six-plus innings in suffering his sixth loss against 11 wins this season.
